TECHNOLOGY DIRECTOR

240 days; 8 hours per day


PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Plan, coordinate, direct, and design technology implementation and operational activities as appropriate throughout the school district. Support the instructional and administrative programs by providing services to school personnel in installing, using, upgrading, maintaining, and troubleshooting the district wide area network. Assist teachers in integrating learning technologies into the curriculum and support their schools and staff.


QUALIFICATIONS:


Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree preferred


Special Knowledge/Skills:

Understanding of the latest industry trends and technologies

Knowledge and skills in assessing data

Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) with employees, colleagues,

service providers, and community members

Knowledge and skills in using technology as an instructional tool

Knowledge of hardware and software troubleshooting skills

Knowledge of network design and administration

Ability to work with confidential and time-sensitive matters

Ability to work with end-user support in a responsive, helpful, courteous, and tactful manner


Experience:

Minimum of five (5) years using a variety of educational technologies preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:


  • Maintain professional behavior, appearance, and work ethic to represent the school district positively at all times.
  • Demonstrate relentless commitment to the academic achievement of all students.
  • Demonstrate effective customer service strategies to all district patrons and encourage the use of technology work orders.
  • Foster collegiality and team building among staff; encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process.
  • Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance from staff and students; hold staff and students accountable for high performance; recognize excellence and achievement.
  • Articulate a clear direction for all students and staff; articulate a positive image of the school district and school district personnel.
  • Design, configure, upgrade, and repair local and wide area infrastructure.
  • Evaluate, test, and recommend technology for use in the educational environment.
  • Install and test approved technology upgrades in a networked environment.
  • Coordinate development and maintenance of network benchmark standards.
  • Maintain network maps for the district.
  • Consult the district on all technology needs to help obtain goals set forth by the district.
  • Effectively implement and communicate DESE Commissioner Memos regarding technology requirements for the district and/or technology department.
  • Assist with technical needs of DESE testing as needed
  • Interact with administration, faculty, staff, and students to resolve technical issues
  • Read technical journals and/or manuals and attend vendor seminars and appropriate professional development workshops to learn about the maintenance and use of emerging technologies.
  • Maintain Internet securities, including CIPA, etc., compliance with content filtering.
  • Maintain district wifi and wifi security.
  • Conduct research on technology products in support of procurement and development efforts. Evaluate and recommend technology for purchase.
  • Develop long-term strategic planning for meeting future technology needs.
  • Support development and implementation of new district technology needs.
  • Accurately document instances of hardware failure, repair, installation, removal, and student denial of access to technology.
  • Assist with developing and administering an annual budget to include district needs for hardware, software, supplies, maintenance, cloud development, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), software as a service (SaaS), internet of technologies (IoT), and staff training.
  • Coordinate with applicable administrators all matters relating to the purchase and installation of computers and other classroom educational technologies.
  • Receive and respond to inquiries regarding computer usage of all district employees.
  • Conduct ongoing assistance in planning for using and integrating curriculum-based technology in the instructional program.
  • Coordinate workshops and training of teachers and other opportunities to implement specific programs at the administration's request.
  • Collaborate with Educational Cooperative staff to develop distance learning opportunities.
  • Share information and conduct training with related personnel to interpret and implement program specifications.
  • Maintain an up-to-date collection of technology materials to meet identified needs in the district. Coordinate dissemination of technology materials to teachers.
  • Assist in the coordination of district-wide projects and events that support the integration of technology into the curriculum.
  • Serve as a contact for vendors of technology-related products and services.
  • Communicate with administrators and DIS to develop a technology plan for the department and/or campus.
  • Communicate the status of educational technologies and recommend changes and improvements.
  • Maintain a program of regular visitation to all campuses to monitor the use of instructional technology.
  • Handle all aspects of E-Rate filing and verification
  • Chair Arkansas Continuity of Operations (ACOOP) and disaster recovery responsibilities
  • Manage bell systems in collaboration with the administration.
  • Maintain intercom systems in collaboration with the administration.
  • Maintain security camera system.
  • Maintain security door lock system.
  • Aid in system setups as directed (sound system, audiovisual, etc.)
  • Obtain, evaluate, and recommend technology price quotes/bids.
  • Maintain accurate technology inventory list and replacement plan in collaboration with the administration.
  • Monitor and update the district website and marquee regularly.
  • Other duties as assigned.


EQUIPMENT USED:

Computer systems and related equipment, audiovisual equipment, calculator, printer, copier, scanner, VoIP telephone system, intercom system, sound systems, NVR, switches, routers, surveillance cameras, security door controls, fiber converters, fiber, cat 5A & 6 cabling, wireless access points
