Shipping Clerk

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Uses appropriate methods to fill interplant and customer orders as well as loading and unloading materials to inside and outside warehouses .

2. Works with stock pick lists, shop receiving documents and vendor receiving documentation performing the necessary transactions.

3. Measures, cuts and assembles shipping boxes and crates using power and hand tools provided.

4. Checks product to be shipped against shipping order to insure proper amounts, identification and correct materials are shipped.

5. Weigh containers using either bench or floor scales for shipping weights.

6. Works with wood, paper and paperboard, hardboard, waterproof paper and various packing materials including foam.

7. Prepares bills of lading or dray tickets for each shipment, clearing and filing of pack lists.

8. Posts shipments to customer orders; shows order as shipped, and forwards document to accounting department.

9. Maintains other shipping records such as goods returned, returnable pallets, dunnage, etc.

10. Collects information for damage claims.

11. Responsible for issuing and receiving products to and from the storeroom.

12. Maintains proper inventory in the storeroom by doing stock adjustments, processing job pick lists, and sales order pick lists.

13. Responsible for fixing any inventory errors in the storeroom.

14. Counts parts and investigates adjustments.

15. Responsible for analyzing sales orders to determine if sales orders are ready to be shipped to the customer.

16. Prints sales orders and job pick lists.

17. Performs part maintenance to assign proper bin locations.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Moves materials on shipping dock with hand truck.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education: High School degree or equivalent.

2. Experience: At least 1 year of experience in storeroom and shipping or in a related area.

3. Skills: Must have knowledge of spread sheets, databases, and word processing programs and be proficient in the use of same. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.

Anything over 40 pounds will require assistance of personnel or mechanical devices.

Must have basic computer skills, be familiar with or have the ability to use office

equipment, such as fax and copy machines. Good phone skills required. Must pass the shipping clerk test.

COMPUTER PROGRAMS USED IN POSITION:

1. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Should be familiar with the use of the internet, UPS Worldship or current carrier based shipping software,

Vantage software or current Besser Company business system software. Uses programs located on the Internet for all carriers to arrange pickups, quote freight and prepare some shipping documents: FedEx, DHL. Must know and understand customs requirements in the countries that Besser serves.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

  • 8 hour shift

  • Compton, CA 90220: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

  • Shipping & receiving: 1 year (Preferred)
